About the Author
Loren Fisher, Translator

I was born and raised in Albany, Oregon and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944-46. After completing my formal education in 1959 at Brandeis University in Mediterranean Studies under the guidance of Cyrus H. Gordon, I continued my teaching career. I took early retirement in 1976 from my position as Professor of Hebrew Bible at The School of Theology at Claremont and as Professor of Semitic Languages and Literature at the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. I grew up on a ranch, and after leaving the academic setting, I moved to a ranch in Northern California. This was a big change. My writing has also changed, and I now work in fiction as well as non-fiction. My teacher, Cyrus H. Gordon, wanted his students of Ancient Mediterranean Literature to work with all available texts. I have spent most of my time on Hebrew, Babylonian, and Ugaritic texts, but as I turn to Egyptian texts, I can only say I wish that I had done this earlier. Egyptian is such a delight. William A. Ward, one of my classmates, knew this from the start, and he was a great help to me during our student days and even during his years in Beirut.

John Fisher, Illustrator

John Fisher lived with his family in the northern region of Tuscany, Italy from 1987 to 2005. There he worked as a figurative marble sculptor and still continues that work. Although while in Italy, there was a geographical distance between father and son, the Internet enabled them to work together by quickly sharing ideas and images. He has nurtured his interest in illustrations for children’s books through numerous series shared with his daughter Allegra.
